Alpha and Omega: The Beginning and End of Your Search for the Perfect Watch

Swiss watches are the antithesis of digital–they evoke history, luxury, culture, craftsmanship. But times are changing (pun intended), and the watchmakers are paying attention.

For the first time in its history, Swiss watchmaster OMEGA is creating a virtual boutique–omegawatches.com will have a dedicated page for reservations on one specific watch. With just a click, wherever you may be in the world, you can get your hands on the brand’s newest timepiece.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet The OMEGA Speedmaster “Speedy Tuesday” Limited Edition.

There are 2,012 models to reserve and, subject to availability, customers can even specify the Limited Edition number they want. Once chosen, the watches will be delivered in the summer of 2017.

Here are 5 reasons why the Speedy Tuesday must be in your collection:

1. Designed with the stars in mind

If you’re gonna wear a watch, wear one that NASA recommends. Inspired by OMEGA’s Speedmaster “Alaska Project III” model–created for NASA in 1978, anti-reflective and easy-to-read in outer space–the “Speedy Tuesday” features a brushed matte-finish stainless steel case and large radial numerals on the subdials.

2. The stunning “Reverse Panda” dial

Another vintage touch is the “Reverse Panda” dial, first used by OMEGA in 1966. The white opaline-silvery subdials contrast beautifully against the black dial, encircled with a bezel ring in matte black. We love how the black face gives the watch depth, masculinity and luxury.

3. Classic Speedmaster elements

Other classic touches include a domed hesalite crystal with a central OMEGA logo, as well as a vintage-cut brown leather strap with vintage buckle and stitching. This piece can transition from work, to the wedding, to the yacht party.

4. The “Speedy Tuesday” Engraved Caseback

The caseback is stamped with the Speedmaster’s iconic Seahorse medallion, encircled by the words SPEEDY TUESDAY ANNIVERSARY – A TRIBUTE TO ALASKA PROJECT III. But what would really make you feel special wearing it is the Limited Edition number, as there are only 2,012 of these babies around the world.

6. The OMEGA calibre 1861 mechanism
Of course, OMEGA has also retained the calibre 1861 on the inside, the movement used in the famous Speedmaster Moonwatch. You can be confident that your watch was made painstakingly by a skilled horologist to last through generations.
For those who purchase the watch, it is delivered in a special leather watch roll containing a spare NATO strap with #SpeedyTuesday engraved on the strap’s loop, as well as a strap-changing tool.

Check it out on @OMEGA on Instagram, and reserve it by visiting OMEGAWATCHES.COM/SpeedyTuesday.
